first impressions of my MP3 player (Innioasis Y1)
I'll start this by saying I'm probably going to roll this post into a new digital garden page. I want more cross-pollination between the digital garden and bear blog posts about interests and projects. I love thinking about how to structure information on my site.
Anyways! After a couple months of watching ipod repair videos and new DAP (this means digital audio player, which I did not know before this) reviews, I ended up with a $50 little yellow magic music toy.

I could go into pros and cons but honestly it's mostly pros at this point since it's turned out to be a great little device for my use case. It has a clickwheel, good battery life, and takes an aux cable. People complain about the bluetooth range being so weak it can't connect to headphones from your pocket, but my bluetooth speaker connects to it from my pocket around the house and in different rooms so far.
There are a lot of themes and customization options available for the stock firmware, which is what I use (Elsie D is my current theme). Lots of people use Rockbox, but I wanted to just get it up and running with minimal problems and without compromising my battery life.

The best surprise so far has been the built in speaker sounding way better than my older iphone and cheap computer, the second-best is the working bluetooth connection - I was prepared for aux-only connection. It means I can throw this tiny thing in my bag for work and have 125gb of music without needing my speaker.
My least favorite thing is that it's so light it feels cheap (I mean, it was but I wish it had a little heft for tactile reasons).
I now have a lot of music to download and lots of issues with .flac files being hard to rename or music still showing up as
