may & (early) june ephemera
I abandoned the pressure of weeknotes, but here's some slice-of-life content (lord I hate that word!) that would have gone in a weeknote if I was still writing them. My last post was an entry for my Baltimore page, and I have more essay-type posts coming up if I can finish them.
Music:
Bully - Days Move Slow feels like Exile in Guyville-era Liz Phair (yummy 90s angsty femme vocals)
Ratboys - Light Night Mountains All That - I heard this song this morning on my local independent radio station, and after a glance at these YT comments, they're in heavy rotation at indie radio stations all over the US. Their show is sold out for this coming week but they're playing a free show here in July. (Other great songs are Anywhere and Penny in the Lake)
- Blessing Jolie - 20teens - a super catchy off-beat pop song with startingly few plays, she's so good.
IRL Updates:
- I went to a new craft night with a neighbor I met at a yard sale. I cut out squares for this baby quilt I'm making for a friend. I keep saying living in Baltimore as an adult is like being at the beach as a four year old - people just walk up to you and want to be friends after a short conversation. I haven't been let down yet.

Spouse and I went to a play with a co-worker called She Kills Monsters, despite me not being a tabletop RPG or theatre person. It was great and really fun. Turns out plays are pretty great.
I made these Mexican hot chocolate sugar shortbread cookies and they are incredible. Then I immediately went on eBay to buy a proper marble rolling pin and non-Christmas cookie cutters. I love eBay for stuff like that. I'm working on a baking page for my site to log my experiments as a new baker.

I've done so much yardwork and I already need to do more! I love yardwork and I hope to get some planting in after school and traveling end this summer.
I started actually quilting (as in, sewing the layers together) on what I'm calling my Big Messy Quilt. I installed a walking foot to help the layers not get all scrunched up, and it's starting to feel close to the end. I want to figure out all the kinks in quilting and binding before I quilt the baby quilt for someone else.

- I am almost done teaching and feeling really grateful I have a job for next year. There's a lot of talk about teacher shortages, but with declining enrollment (and kids being too expensive for normal people like me to have) districts nationwide are doing layoffs. I received a text while writing this about another friend getting laid off from a school she's had great performance reviews at for years. It's rough but I love my job.
Online Life:
I am participating in Robert Birming's Junited project! Here's my page of links I'll be updating. Clicking through the participants' pages has been a great source of link rabbitholes for me.
I added and tweaked a new guestbook for my site and blog!
