sick day scrolls
It was a matter of time as a teacher - everyone has finally just gotten sick. The kids are sick, the staff are sick, the tissues have been run through for the year (yes, really) and I am down for the count. I have had a really eerie experience from long covid after a mild case that felt exactly like this. My body is waiting for the other shoe to drop and for my life to wither up for months. It isn't likely to, but that's not how my amygdala works.
The following are some little discoveries, purchases, and joys.
I found some cool websites!

I found Jeffy's site through special.fish at the reminder of pnppl on 32-bit Cafe. Quite a provenance, but I love the provenance of links these days.
He's really got it all, from a hall of fame of freshwater microbes to spoons

Girl-Wonderlust has a lovely little treasure trove. I love the idea of keeping a public job log for a young person mapping out career, especially with so many fields drying up so quickly in the U.S. What if we all could be transparent about our career thinking? She's weabweaving about god and organizing her creations.

Itinerae has really gorgeous graphics/sozai that take me back to my 2003 Angelfire days. There are backgrounds, dividers, gifs, and layouts, and as I work on another section of my site I'm going to try to work some of these in.

Espy's site is one I think I found on Status Cafe. There's an incredible Espeon collection and a nicely-organizes O.C. page. Neither Pokemon or O.C.s are my thing but a lovingly made website will make me care about all kinds of things.
And finally, I found Frances Crossley's blog via Departure's Pixel Bears page. In More That Unites Us they stand with a posterboard of policies and some stickers in conservative parts of England and just talks to people:
These are completely random people walking past in areas that vote Tory and Reform. One of the points is that people's views are more liberal than their votes. Look at everyone who wants to renationalise stuff! What people say they want is in direct opposition to the policies of who they are voting for. I tell people "These are all the opinions of people in this town in the last hour." Which I think is eye-opening in itself. You're not alone. It's not like the headlines say.
On the left we can get disconsolate and doomy and on the right people feel everyone is against them. We're all told we're so divided. But people want the same things.https://francescrossley.com/more-that-unites-us/ via https://departure.blog/pixel-bears/
Other good things going on
- I bought a shirt from an artist! And another one! Nice to have fun mail to look forward to. I buy maybe 3 articles of brand new clothes a year, so this is rare.

I am currently poking the first fire of the season, bundled up with a quilt I finished over the summer. It feels good to see that project serve a purpose and to let it not be precious and let the dogs walk on it.
Wife made me the magic potion - boiled tumeric, ginger, garlic, and bay leaves with some hone stirred in. I've also been taking decongestants or ibuprofen around the clock and rinsing my sinuses 2x a day. I regret slacking off on sinus rinses before now, they have always kept me from getting sick during the school year. I am adding xylitol and iodine to them as well.
I am still accepting that I can't go to work tomorrow. For most teachers, this is really stressful. I got my sub plans sorted and gave my work wife a heads up. I just hope not too many other ppl are out sick with the same crud!

Listening to Gladness by Helvetia - lots of broody, lazy guitar that's giving a nice texture to my first-fire-of-the-season-sick-day experience.
I bought fields of Mistria! Honestly, having a farming sim to play while I have staying-home guilt is probably the move for tomorrow.
